Phlan Empty Phlan

Post  Di-Master Thu Sep 02, 2010 4:48 pm

Εδώ θα προσθέτω σταδιακά στοιχεία που γνωρίζουν οι κάτοικοι της Phlan για αυτή και πέριξ:

Latest Disease outbreak at the west side of town.
Latest Control of the North Gate by the forces of Bane

There is no Bane's Temple in Phlan, although by the Smoking Rock *, there is a thick opaque black veil of gas covering a huge area. Access is denied at all circumstances. Only the Deathknight of Bane (+some of his followers, lackeys and [sin] punishers have been seen entering and leaving the veil. From times to times thunderous noises are heard and recently also ... felt coming out of it, they sound like enormous things falling once. Thus, most think they are actually building a temple in the name of Bane.

* Smoking Rock είναι ο βράχος [ 200mx300mx70m], στο βορειοανατολικό άκρο της Phlan

1. A city ruined but never fully destroyed by war, invasion and dragon's strike (green).

2. Most lucrative trade = gems

3. Administration: "rotating" Council of Ten (all judges). The head of the Council is the High Councilor (currently [name])

4. Rebuilding is a major preoccupation. Arrested ones are assigned to reconstruction tasks.

Phlan Empty Re: Phlan

Post  Di-Master Wed Oct 27, 2010 12:08 am

current date: Uktar, 1372
In the year 1306 DR, the Year of Thunder, a dragon invasion known as the Dragon Run swept down from the North. During their attack, Phlan was once again reduced to ruins.
This occurred at the same time as the Moonsea war, which pitted Mulmaster against an alliance of the other Moonsea cities. Because of this war, no one came to Phlan’s aid to
stop yet another round of destruction.
The city was rebuilding slowly from the effects of the Dragon Run setback when, in the Year 1347 DR, another disasterstruck. A parasitic creature named Tyranthraxus the Great Possessor, Lord of the Ruins, corrupted the body of a bronze dragon and used this majestic creature as ahost. Tyranthraxus then took up residence in Valjevo Castle in Old Phlan.

Phlan was subjected to a further indignity ten years later (1357). The evil god Bane, in an attempt to increase his own power, tried to draw a group of cities into the
nether regions. The unfortunate city of Phlan was one of the victims, and once again there was war in the streets as the citizens battled creatures of darkness (more info soon)

Bane was foiled by the same heroes who defeated Tyranthraxus, and the cities were returned. The following year, Bane was presumed destroyed in the Time of Troubles,
and Cyric took over the Bane’s areas of influence.

Reconstruction of Phlan now proceeds at great speed. Companies of dwarf and gnome workers are making excellent progress in clearing away the debris and erecting new buildings.
Arrested prisoners and convicted felons are put to work clearing the rubble alongside hired groups.
Artisans and craftspeople from all over the Moonsea have been called in to put their skills to work in the rebuilding. Sculptors, painters, landscapers, and other specialized professions
are in especially high demand. Anyone with just about any kind of skill can make good money in Phlan.

Despite this progress, much of Phlan still lies in ruins. Part of the reason for this is that new lairs and secret chambers are discovered every so often, and some still contain monstrosities—
and fortunes. Most workers are unwilling to risk the horrors of what may lurk below, even when promised part of whatever riches may also be there.
Looting the ruins is not illegal. In fact, people are encouraged to go into the ruins and look around, as long as they report what they see to the Council of Ten.
Those who fail to comply are put to work in the rubble-clearing crews.

Phlan Empty Phlan's Interior

Post  Di-Master Wed Oct 27, 2010 1:37 am

Main sites of interest:

Religion
Shrine to Ilmater (NW)
Former Temple to Tyr, aka The Waiting (S)
Former abandoned temple to Bane, τους τελευταίους 4 μήνες ο θόλος κοντά στο Smoking Rock (NE)

Valhingen Graveyard
This huge cemetery was haunted by a vampire and a plethora of undead for many years. Unfortunately, even though the vampire himself was destroyed, most citizens insist
that new, more terrible undead have since taken up residence. However, no one has actually seen anything here—at least not yet.
Last known lore: at 1358 a ghost of one of the evil clerics of Bane now hauntsthis graveyard and has brought with it more undead. A group of adventurers eradicated it.

Inns
currently operating
1. Nine Tailed Duck, [tag for George Gabriel to fill up]
2. The Laughing Goblin, the best known and the best in quality Room, ale, and dinner cost 7 gp, 2 gp more if there is a horse to be stabled. Most visitors to the town, as well as most local VIPs, eventually pass through the Goblin’s doors. It is a booming, raucous place owned by the niece of Ren o' the Blade, adventurer that dissipated Tyranthraxus, former (till 1340) ruler of Phlan).
3. Cracked Crown, So named for the cracked bronze crown that hangs over the front door, the Crown is a more elegant, and far quieter place
than the Laughing Goblin. A good dinner, ale, and a bed cost 10 gp. The Crown is owned and run by Robyrtah Greensash (halfling)
4. Nat Wyler's Ben, a dive located in the slums, This small inn is little more than an ale-soaked dive with a large common sleeping room above it.
People with few coins in their pockets can gorge on bland food, drown in cheap ale, then stagger upstairs to sleep it off.

5. The Bitter Blade, caters to much of the visiting sea traffic and is also a haven for the city’s malcontents and wrongdoers. Food, drink, and a room cost 6 gp per night.
closed
6. Pig's Retreat, occupied by thieves/bandits

Denlor's Tower
This tower was until recently (1367) occupied by a wizard who called herself Rowena. Looking for a quiet place to do her research, she visited Phlan . Slowly, she ingratiated
herself into the townsfolk’s good graces by lending a hand with the town’s cleanup and repairs.
When the time was right, Rowena appealed to the Council of Ten to let her have the tower. In return she asked to be solely responsible for its repair and restoration.
The Council, realizing that a powerful wizard as a citizen was an asset, agreed. No one realizez Rowena was a Red Wizard of Thay, sent to the North Coast of the Moonsea
to spy andreport. Upor her disclosure, Xvim's forces implemented an inquisition against all other clergy and users of the Weave. She was burnt in the middle of Podol Plaza
for all to see.

Matteo'’s
His weapons are of excellent quality and his services are much sought-after by soldiers and adventurers. Matteo’s prices are high, but the workmanship of his blades is unmatched
anywhere in the Moonsea. He will also do repair work, but only on weapons of the highest caliber.
Matteo is a half-elf who has worked with metal all his life. He is large for an elf; he towers almost six feet and has sinewy muscles and long, reddish-black hair that is
shaved on the sides and falls in a mohawklike tail behind him. Now the smith is ran by his son Mate'Velian.

Scholar’s Square
This area of town was the center of learning in Phlan. Libraries, trade and religious schools, sage houses, and other structures of learning
could be found here. Now most of the buildings are entirely reduced to rubble, except for one long, low edifice that had served as the city’s library.
Occasionally an intact book or scroll is found among the debris.

Denelor’s Tower
This gray-brown structure is the largest and most impressive of the old Phlan towers.
It is considered a city historical site (for no other reason than it managed to survive this long) and
locals will point to it as a splendid example of Phlan’s commitment to the restoration of the city.

Slum Market
This dizzying maze of stalls, booths, and tents always teems with people, because it is the place to find cheap wares, exotic merchandise,
and items not normally found in more respectable establishments

Valjevo Castle
Majestic, crumbling remains are all that remain of this imposing granite and marble castle, once one of the largest structures in the Realms. The turrets of the castle rose over 100 feet, and even as a ruin they are among the tallest.
Far underground lies the Pool of Radiance. It was at one time the power source of Tyranthraxus, but is now just a normal (nonmagical) pool of water.
Τhere is talk of restoring Valjevo Castle to its old grandeur, but most citizens feel it is an indulgence that should not be considered until the city is back on track.
It will take enormous manpower and expense to restore it.
However, behind the scenes they were negotiating with some local druids to restore the courtyard gardens from their then poisonous state into a place filled with
roses, unusual herbs, and healthy greenery. To date, the gardens is a sanctuary of nature's touch, with immense beauty all around. The plants there seem to have
their own fortitude as it seems impossible to uproot or utterly destroy any of them

Sokol Keep
When Phlan fell to the dragon army 50 years ago, Sokol Keep (a small keep-like fort located on Thorn Island) was one of the last places to fall.
Workers begun later restoring the Keep to act as a lighthouse, atop the Keep for ships entering the Bay of Phlan. But rumors of ghosts and other supernatural
kept many workers away, and progress was slow.
The lighthouse never actually led any light on the bay's waters.

Ernst’s Livery
Ernst runs a respectable stable near the center of town.
Stabling rates run 3 gp per night for regular mounts, up to 20 gp a night for
exotic mounts such as pegasi, griffins, or hippogriffs.

Phlan Empty People of Interest

Post  Di-Master Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:02 am

Tyranthraxus (unknown race, male)
(status: fled, 1340), also called the Possessing Spirit and the Flamed One, is a malign entity. Tyranthraxus raised an army of orcs around 1242, hobgoblins, and similar creatures and stormed into Phlan.
He ruled phlan for almost 100 years. In 1340 DR, Tyranthraxus's rule over Phlan was challenged by the adventurerers Shal Desanea, Ren o' the Blade, and Tarl Desanea.

Ren o' the Blade (human)
(status: gone), former barkeep of the Laughin Goblin. Former ranger, came to be known as a brave adventurer, that
redeemed the land of many evil and ill-thinking beings. His niece, bearing her father's infamous ioun stone runs the
Laughin Goblin nowadays. His other daughter, (maybe one of many more), wielding a bow with the other ioun stone was
last seen/heard around Thar. At 1357 his group of friends and allies, managed to save the Moonsea cities from the Nether
Transtion. Noone has seen him since 1358.

Tarl Desanea (human)
(status: deceased) Cleric of Tyr, Tarl was among the defenders of Phlan when Bane transported the city to an underground cavern in order to subvert it.
With problems arising from his god, Tarl was eventually blinded, although he could see magic. Was among the Hope Fist, the group of women and men to counter the menace of the
barbaric shadow bite. Fought during the Griffon Siege (1357) and was still in command of The Waiting when the Banites took hold of the northern part of the town (1357). He died at the clashes that followed

Shal Desanea: (human)
wizard (status: gone), previously happily married to Tarl Desanea.
Hails from Cormyr. Must be over 50 now, if still alive.
Was among the defenders of Phlan when Bane transported the city to an underground cavern in order to subvert it.
It is believed by many that her struggle alone prevented Phlan from final subversion during 1357.

Teldorn Darkhope: (human)
Cleric of Bane, currently ruler of Mintar, a city far away, in the south.
Killed Tarl Desanea, Justice Holder of Phlan. Then left.
His mark still lurks around the city. Whispers and air flowing through plates make people wary and nervous.
Occasional rumors are spread about deafening voices coming out of the rocks, voices alike the ones shouted
during the dread event of the Turn, by the more than 200 people that died that day. Mass graves,
right out of the cemetery is a grim reminder of the day too.
